Miller & Carter – Glasgow

By Peter Canning

Why is Miller and Carter – Glasgow such a great restaurant?

Well, let me tell you exactly why.

Miller & Carter

The restaurant is located in Glasgow City Centre on St Vincent Street. This is easily accessible from either train stations in Glasgow, the bus station (Buchanan bus station) or car parks. For our visit, we drove up and parked at the NPC car park at Mitchell Street. This was less than a 5 minute walk from the car park to the restaurant.

Layout

The restaurant building used to be an old post office, which was probably the biggest post office I was ever in. The size of the post office has allowed Miller & Carter to benefit from the big layout, from a large dining area, large kitchen and a nice bar as well as a high ceiling.

The dining area has lots of seating options, from booth tables to individually spaced tables, which are spread out over the dining floor and at the front of the restaurant is a seating area which looks out into St Vincent street.

The back of the restaurant has an open kitchen that allows customers to see the chefs hard at work. I personally like the feature of being able to see the chefs, possibly because I’m a fan of Gordon Ramsay’s shows and seeing the chefs produce tasty food or probably because it allows me to see when my foods ready.

Waiting Staff

When you enter inside Miller & Carter you are greeted by friendly staff, who show you to your seat and provide you with any information required before allowing you the time to browse through the tasty menu. The staff continue to make you feel welcome throughout your experience.

Every time we have been to Miller & Carter, the staff have went above and beyond to make sure our service has been perfect. From the point of taking our order, they have brought our meals out to us in a timely manner as to give a little space between each meal.

The Food

The food on Miller & Carter’s menu has always tasted amazing ever since they opened. I have written multiple reviews on TripAdvisor and most recently, I’ve done two video reviews on YouTube, one last year and the most recent review earlier this week.

Every time we have went to Miller & Carter our food has always tasted amazing, from their starters, mains, desserts and even the drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

Recent Visit

Our recent visit to Miller & Carter was just as great as every other time we’ve went.

For our starters: I got the Crispy Pork Belly Bao Bun. I always wanted to taste a bao bun and the taste of spring onion, mango, chilli, soy sauce cooked together along with a lemongrass & ginger dipping sauce was phenomenal. I could have recreated a scene from “When Harry Met Sally” from that Bao Bun, but I have self control. My wife got the Sautéed Garlic King Prawns which consisted of pan-seared prawns in a garlic butter and spring onion, which came with a side of ciabatta. The prawns were cooked to perfection and the taste of garlic and spring onion helped make this dish extra special.

For our main: We both agreed on trying the Butcher’s Block 26oz, and trust me when you see what the block consists of, you would also get this. This was a variety of steaks, from ribeye 8oz, rump 8oz and 2 fillet 5oz each, as well as a half rack of barbecue ribs. To top it all off, we both got a side of Grilled Lobster Tail. Oh man! I’m drooling just writing this.

For our dessert: We both landed on Classic Crème Brulee which was a Madagascan vanilla-glazed brulee, vanilla biscuit and berries. They did not call this dish a classic for nothing, as the vanilla and caramelized sugar just tingles the taste buds.

Previous Visits

Over the years that we have visited Miller & Carter, we have always chosen from the steak menu. Being that it is a steakhouse, we at least expected the steaks to be decent but we didn’t expect them to be so great. This has made this one of our top steak restaurants in Glasgow.

As a result, I wanted to try the other foods on the menu, just to test out the other options. So, I have tasted everything from the menu such as the calamari, prawns, scallops (when they where on the menu), bruschetta, baked mushrooms and nachos. From the main menu, I’ve tried the different kinds of steaks they offer such as T-bone, rump, ribeye and sirloin, not to mention the different kinds of steak sauces, (gravy, truffle infused sauce, peppercorn to name a few) which have all tasted so good. The other sections from the main menu such as the fish, ribs, chicken, their range of burgers, the different kinds of sides and finally, the desserts which there are great selections.

After trying so many different things, I wanted to try their homemade house sodas, non-alcoholic cocktails and their alcoholic beers.

I really wish that I could find something I haven’t liked or a bad service or something but the folks in the restaurant have been spot on with service in every way.

I would recommend anyone who loves food to try Miller & Carter themselves. I have seen vegan and vegetarian options but I’ve never tried them. As a result, I’m unable to comment on those, but I will definitely try it some day just to completely taste everything from the menu.
